What to Do After Keyword Research: A Simple 5-Step Guide

If you’re reading this article, it’s most likely because you found it on the front page of Google. Follow every step in this guide and you’ll be able to rank for your keywords in the same way.

That's a question that often lingers in the minds of web designers, marketers, and SEO enthusiasts. For me, the answer was clear: Integrating AI, SEO, and Social Media. It wasn't just about following trends; it was about unearthing new tools that could streamline and rejuvenate my web activities after the meticulous process of keyword research.

I delved into this exciting frontier and discovered a world where creativity meets code, where human insight blends with artificial intelligence, and where we constantly push the boundaries of what's possible. This journey led me to a high-impact SEO strategy that not only enhanced my content creation but also opened doors to innovative ways of connecting with my audience. Here’s what you do:

Yes, it’s that easy. Here’s how you do it:

Choose the right keywords

Moving forward, we’re going to make a few assumptions:

  • You already know who your core audience is (potential customers)

  • Based on that work, you’ve already done your keyword research

  • You have a list of keywords that you don’t know what to do with

  • Your site is new and you're eager to make your mark

The most important thing to do at this stage is focus. That means you need to aim for the low-hanging fruit (keywords with high search volume and low keyword difficulty), especially since you haven't built any domain or topical authority yet.

Here's a simple yet effective strategy: Pick one main keyword and one secondary keyword using the parameters I described above AND make sure it’s something you at least have an opinion about. These two keywords will become your compass, guiding you in structuring your content. Whether you're crafting it manually or using a writing assistant as I do (shoutout to SEMRush, my favorite keyword tool for conducting keyword research), this focused approach will set you on the right path.

As you grow and build your authority, you'll have plenty of chances to rank for other keywords. But for now, keep it simple, keep it focused, and watch how this targeted approach can lead to early successes in your SEO journey.

Write the article

This is the most labor-intensive portion of this process, so I’ll be robust but succinct.

Start with what you know

Put whatever you know about your products or services onto the page; give AI something to work off of. Bounce back and forth between your AI writer and your SEO tools until you have a well-structured, highly optimized article. Don’t compromise the integrity of the article (step-by-step, informational, directory, etc.). In the long run, you may end up damaging your reputation, or worse, miss the search intent behind your keyword.

Then use an AI writer

ChatGPT is a game-changer in the content creation space. This tool makes it easier for content creators to naturally incorporate relevant keywords, enhancing the impact of keyword phrases in your content.

Like you and many others, I use ChatGPT for a host of tasks, including writing for SEO. It allows me to turn my keywords and ideas into a well-organized article outline, simplifying the content creation process.

Balancing AI with Human Touch

The blend of technology and humanity is the secret sauce of creating many types of content. Balancing the use of AI tools like ChatGPT with a personal touch in your content that resonates with your audience is crucial for reaping the benefits of your keyword research.

Use Grammarly

After pouring hours into writing, both human and AI-driven, it's surprisingly easy to overlook the basics like syntax, vocabulary, and sentence structure. Even the most carefully crafted content can have its quirks and imperfections.

I've found Grammarly’s free Chrome extension to be a lifesaver in this case. It's like having a vigilant editor right by your side, catching those pesky errors and polishing the text to perfection.

It's a simple step, but one that adds a professional touch to everything I create. Whether you're a seasoned writer or just starting out, tools like Grammarly can elevate your content and ensure that your message is clear, engaging, and error-free.

Enhance the Reader's Experience

Once the keyword-optimized content is ready, don't forget to add that visual flair to match. Imagery isn't just about aesthetics; it's about creating a cohesive and engaging user experience.

I love to use Wix as my platform of choice for this very reason. Its AI-generated art features make it simple to visually enhance the user experience, allowing me to create content that's not only informative but also visually appealing. It's a blend of creativity and technology that brings my content to life, resonating with readers and adding that extra layer of connection.

Read it

This might seem painstakingly obvious, but I have to mention it. Even with all the AI tools at our disposal, there's a quality of the work that only you can see. It's your unique experience, your knowledge, and your voice that needs to be present in your work if you want it to not only rank but actually be valuable.

Take the time to read through your content. Because at the end of the day, it's that human touch, that authenticity, that makes your content not just good but truly impactful.

Publish the Article

After publishing, make sure you can see it through the provided URL. I usually take the link to Google Search Console immediately after publishing.

Track the Article

I use Position Tracker on Semrush and assign those primary and secondary keywords to that article’s URL. It's a targeted approach that allows me to keep a close eye on how my content is ranking, ensuring that I'm hitting the mark and continually optimizing for success.

Wait and optimize

Regularly checking the ranking of your content is essential to understanding how well it's performing in search results. Tools like Google Search Console or specialized rank-tracking software can provide insights into where your content stands.

Are you ranking for the keywords you targeted? How are you faring against competitors? These insights allow you to see where you're succeeding and where you can make improvements. It's a continuous process of analysis and refinement, ensuring that your content stays relevant and competitive for your target audience.

Optimization is not a one-time task; it's an ongoing commitment to excellence. Tools like SEMRush's SEO Writing Assistant can be invaluable in this process. By analyzing your content using keyword research tools against top-performing competitors and SEO best practices, it provides actionable recommendations to enhance your content's SEO. Maybe it's about adjusting the keyword density, improving readability, or adding more engaging meta descriptions.

The SEO Writing Assistant guides you through these adjustments, providing real-time feedback and suggestions that drive traffic. It's like having a personal SEO coach, helping you fine-tune your content to meet the ever-changing demands of search engine rankings and readers alike.

What to Do After Keyword Research: Final Thoughts

As you chart your course in the wide ocean of what to do after keyword research, the key is to start now. Keep your vision clear and embrace the intricate dance between technology and your innate human creativity. The fusion of artificial intelligence and search engine optimization does open up a world abounding with opportunities ripe for exploration post-keyword research.
